The three things we can all do to look good

There really are three things I believe we can all do to help us look good. Two of them I can help with but the other is up to you. I'm not talking about getting an incredible wardrobe together or changing our appearance in a drastic way.

These are everyday things that any person can do. One is to understand proper fit. Once we know how garments are meant to fit and sit on us, even the simplest thing can look incredible. Secondly, deciphering what colours add radiance to us can make an enormous difference. The third thing is something I’ve only discovered for myself recently and it’s to do with how we use our bodies, in particular, posture.

I remember lots of my aunts were very round shouldered but of course I thought that would never happen to me. Over time though, I’ve caught sight of myself heading in that direction too. Definitely one explanation is that I was never one for highlighting my bust, which is sizeable for my frame, so I’ve tended to use my arms and shoulders to hide it.

But what a mistake! If you observe the people you encounter you will notice there is a certain energy and attractiveness about those who sit upright and move fluidly. It’s as though they know subconsciously that their bodies are fine things that they can put to good use. You can achieve this too. And the best thing is that you don’t need to be young, thin or anything else to improve your posture, and you can begin today!

Although I’ve exercised regularly since my early twenties, initially swimming and then attending a women’s gym, over the last 12 months I’ve begun attending yoga, pilates and barre classes each week, and as a result I feel my body is more stretched and upright than I recall it being for many years. I feel stronger and use my body more confidently as I perform everyday tasks. I know I sit more upright at the computer now because my core is stronger and my shoulders and spine find alignment more easily. I haven’t lost weight (that is another thing altogether) but I know I look better and move about with the energy of a person younger than I was when I began this a year ago.

As I said, I can help you with understanding fit and analysing colour, but how you find energy and achieve good posture will be your own unique path to find. Do it and I promise you won’t regret it!
